Remembrance Sunday is just a few weeks away which will commemorate and pay respects to British Service members who are sadly no longer with us.
Every year on the 11thof November, a two-minute silence is given to honour and remember the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. This moment of silence marks the day that World War 1 ended, at 11am on the 11thday of the 11thmonth, in 1918.
The Arborfield Service will be held as usual this year at the Arborfield Cross Village Memorial on Sunday 10thNovember at 10:45am. The parade will form at the Arborfield Royal British Legion Club at 10:30am and refreshments will be served there afterwards.
Arborfield’s Military Wives Choir will be joining the community on Remembrance Sunday to honour the fallen at the annual Remembrance Service at Arborfield Cross. It would be great to see as many of the local Arborfield residents as possible to unite and honour those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.
Anyone who has a past, or present military connection can join the MWC which provides support and empowerment to women in the community. The Arborfield Military Wives Choir provides a welcoming atmosphere for new members to join and share their military experiences with others.
This autumn, the MWC have had a very busy few weeks! Starting in Burghfield, they performed at a concert in aid of ‘Save the Children’ which was a great event for a meaningful cause. However, the performances didn’t stop there! After singing their hearts out for charity, the Arborfield MWC reunited with ten other Military Wives Choirs in Cadogan Hall, London to sing songs from the Military Wives album, ‘Remember’. It was a fantastic evening bringing together friends and representatives from the Royal British Legion with lots of local support. Nonetheless, as there’s no rest for the wicked, the very next day the MWC held a new members evening which was lovely to welcome some new faces and enjoy some delicious cake and fizz which we’re sure went down a treat!
Another upcoming event that the MWC are performing at is the concert at the St Eligius Church on Thursday 28thNovember. Come along and enjoy watching the MWC perform musical songs, Christmas tunes and some tracks from their ‘Remember’ and ‘Home for Christmas’ albums! Tickets are available from the church, on the door and by contacting Arborfield’s MWC.
We look forward to seeing you there!
